ABOUT ME
Jacob Lehman, PsyD
PSYCHOLOGIST / FORMER D-1 COLLEGIATE ATHLETE
I’m a clinical psychologist in Portland, Oregon. I have an active license in Oregon and Washington and work with clients from both states remotely through telehealth. I specialize in working with clients with depression, trauma, grief and loss, and performance related concerns in sports, academics, career, or other areas of life. I have also had the privilege to work with many neurodivergent individuals and have thorough knowledge of tech and gaming culture/communities. I work with teens, college students, adults, and couples.
I believe that a strong and trusting therapeutic relationship is essential to success in therapy, which influences how I will approach our work together. As your therapist, we will begin by gathering information about your concerns and areas of your life you are most wanting to create change in. I often view myself as a guide/companion who can explore the challenges you are facing with you and help you identify new and more effective ways to navigate difficult life experiences.
Through meaningful and genuine exploration of your concerns I will help you develop skills to better manage your distress and identify new ways to create meaningful and sustainable change in your life. I value feedback from my clients throughout our work together and I take a collaborative approach to developing treatment plans.
PROFESSIONAL BACKGROUND
I received my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pacific University in 2020, where I completed my doctoral dissertation, The Relationship Between Athletic Identity and Resilience.
In 2017, I started an outreach program at University of Portland to establish better access to mental health care for athletes. In 2018, I further developed this outreach program into a permanent part-time practicum site.
I completed my doctoral internship at Montana State University as a college counselor in 2020. Working at Montana State University allowed me the opportunity to work with many indigenous groups and other ethnic minority populations.
I am currently providing mental health services in Oregon and Washington, and I co-own Portland Insight Psychotherapy with Dr. Arbo.
PERSONAL
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling with my family, playing with my daughter like I am five years old again, woodworking, spending time outdoors, or working on a project around the house.
FEES
Individual Therapy $250
Family OR Couple Therapy $275
INSURANCE
I am currently a private-pay, out-of-network provider. While I don't accept insurance directly, your insurance plan may have out-of-network benefits, which means that they will reimburse you for a portion of our session cost. I have partnered with Thrizer to handle the out-of-network process automatically for you. With Thrizer, you have the option to pay the full fee and wait for reimbursement from your insurance to be direct deposited into your account, typically two weeks, or you can opt into only paying your responsibility while Thrizer waits for the reimbursement from your insurance. Payments can also be billed to a FSA or HSA card directly.
I am happy to quickly check your insurance benefits and provide you with an estimate of what your Out-of-Network benefits are. Just reach out to me and we can get it figured out together during our free initial consultation!
I know navigating insurance details can be exhausting and I hope to simplify that process as much as I can for you!
