About Greg Arbo, PsyD

Licensed Psychologist | Yogi | Co-founder of Portland Insight Psychotherapy

I’m Greg Arbo, a licensed psychologist in Oregon and Washington, and co-founder of Portland Insight Psychotherapy, where I work alongside Dr. Jacob Lehman.

I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Pacific University, and completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Maine. My background in both clinical psychology and yoga-based education informs the way I approach therapy—curious, attuned, and grounded in the belief that insight is what drives lasting change.

Who I Work With

I work with teens (ages 11 and up), adults, and couples across a wide range of concerns, including trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, performance stress, ADHD, grief, and identity questions.

I also offer family therapy and parent coaching for those navigating adolescence, emotional overwhelm, or the pressures of high-achievement environments. One area I’m especially passionate about is helping parents build distress tolerance; not just in their kids, but in themselves.

This often means learning how to stay present and grounded during emotionally intense moments, especially when children are struggling or acting out.

This part of my work frequently overlaps with my developing consultation and workshop offerings, where I focus on practical tools for emotion regulation, attunement, and co-regulation. Whether it’s in the therapy room or a larger group setting, I believe emotional fluency begins at home.

I am process-oriented and relational, and tend to work long-term with clients who are ready to go deep.

My Approach

Clients often tell me they come to therapy looking for coping tools, and stay because something more meaningful started to take shape. Our work becomes less about fixing a problem and more about understanding how your mind works, what your body is communicating, and what it means to live with purpose, even when things feel uncertain.

I bring a structured, thoughtful approach to our sessions, often drawing from psychodynamic theory, mindfulness, and Socratic questioning. I’m highly attuned to energy, emotional undercurrents, and the unsaid. I don’t just let the conversation wander; I guide it with care, precision, and respect. Therapy with me is active, rigorous, sometimes uncomfortable, but always human.

My Background

I’ve worked in college counseling centers, athletic programs, and health clinics, supporting Division I athletes, first-generation college students, teens with ADHD, high-performing professionals, and couples on the edge of disconnection. I completed my doctoral training at Pacific University, including research on the role of yoga in sport injury rehabilitation.

Before opening Portland Insight Psychotherapy, I co-founded the YogaX program at Stanford’s Department of Psychiatry, where I taught mind-body integration in clinical care.

What Yoga Taught Me About Therapy

While I don’t teach yoga in session, it continues to inform my sensitivity to the nervous system, the therapeutic use of breath and posture, and the power of slowing down to notice. These insights shape how I work; not just what we talk about, but how we talk, how we breathe, and how we build the safety to explore something difficult.

Outside The Therapy Room

Outside of work, I’m usually chasing after movement in some form, whether that’s a long trail run, a quiet yoga practice, or a Saturday spent with my family. I also love fixing things with my hands; it’s a satisfying way to engage my curiosity and slow down.

I’ve always been interested in how things work, from the mechanics of the mind to the way meaning gets built in a conversation. That curiosity, and a deep respect for what makes us human, is what I try to bring into the room with every client.

Meeting with clients

I offer in-person sessions on Wednesdays in Portland. I also meet with clients across Oregon and Washington via secure telehealth, Monday through Thursday.

Insurance & Payment details

I do not accept insurance and am considered an out-of-network provider. However, I submit claims on behalf of clients to their insurance carriers on a session-by-session basis. This means you may not have to file for reimbursement yourself.
If your plan includes out-of-network benefits, you’ll typically receive partial reimbursement directly from your insurer. I’m also able to accept payment via HSA or FSA cards.

Let’s Work Together

If you’re looking for a therapist who brings clarity, warmth, and lived experience to the table, and who’s comfortable sitting with the hard stuff, I’d love to meet you.
